ABOUT THIS EVENT

A $55 billion program to build 80 to 100 new stealth intercontinental bombers has moved to the top of Pentagon priorities with the Obama Administration’s swing to an Asia-Pacific strategy.  Dr. Rebecca Grant and General John Corley, USAF, Ret., will discuss the case for the new stealth bomber, why the time is right to invest in a new program, and what the impact may be on the aerospace industrial base.  Grant will release her White Paper, The Case for a New Stealth Bomber, the first in a series from the Washington Security Forum.

EVENT SPEAKERS

Dr. Rebecca Grant is President of IRIS Independent Research, a public-policy research organization in Washington, DC.  Dr. Grant earned her Ph.D. in International Relations from the London School of Economics, then worked for RAND and the offices of the Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff of the Air Force.  Her research work has included analysis of major campaigns from Kosovo to Afghanistan and Iraq; air base ground defense concepts; the CVN-78 Ford-class carrier; options for long-range strike; cyberspace domain operations; and defense industrial base trends.  She also writes for Air Force Magazine.

General John Corley, USAF, Ret., concluded his assignment as Commander, Air Combat Command in November 2009.  During his Air Force career he commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels. His staff positions comprised a mix of operational and joint duties in Tactical Air Command, Pacific Air Forces, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Air Combat Command, Headquarters U.S. Air Force and the Joint Staff.  General Corley gained significant experience in intense combat, including Operation Enduring Freedom. As Combined Air Operations Center Director in 2001 and 2002, he orchestrated more than 11,000 combat missions striking more than 4,700 targets.  He is a 1973 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and logged over 3000 hours in fighters including the F-15, A-10, and F-5.
